These Pix Theatre mail ads from 1955 helped Black Mountain residents learn what film releases were on the horizon. The theater opened on East State Street in 1924 as the New Theater under the ownership of Lee Hiltz. In 1946, following Hiltz's death, his widow, Bertha Nell Crawford Hiltz, sold the theater to her son Albert J. "Laddie" Terrell Jr., and his wife, Harriette M. Terrell. Renamed the Pix Theatre in 1968, the venue continued to operate until the 1960s. The present-day site of the Pix Theatre is the Town Square parking lot. Do you remember when the theater shut down?
