Town of Black Mountain will comply with Buncombe Stay Home order

Following is a statement issued March 25 by the town of Black Mountain:

Visitors of Black Mountain:

In light of growing concerns regarding COVID-19, Chairman Brownie Newman and the

Buncombe County Commissioners have issued a Stay-at-Home Order for all county residents to further help stop the spread of this virus. The Town of Black Mountain is incorporated into this order by consent of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen. Please view the order and FAQ sheet for specific details.

Effective Thursday, March 26, 2020, beginning at 8 p.m., this order requires all residents within Buncombe County to remain in their homes until 6 a.m. April 9, 2020 as part of an attempt to reduce the number of new COVID-19 infections in Buncombe County.

Exceptions to the order will be allowed for those seeking medical treatment, buying food, or exercising outdoors. Essential workers, such as hospital and medical staff, law enforcement and firefighters, food service and grocery store employees, local government employees, etc., will be allowed to travel to work. The order will not prohibit restaurants from providing take-out or delivery options. It also does not prohibit daycares, homeless shelters, and government agencies from operating. The order will be enforced by all Buncombe County Law Enforcement.

All Town of Black Mountain facilities, including Town Hall, police headquarters, fire stations, and Black Mountain Recreation & Parks facilities and playgrounds, public restrooms, and Golf Course remain closed to the public until further notice. Black Mountain greenways are open to the public (as long as social distancing measures including maintaining a six-foot social distancing and gatherings of no more than ten (10) people.

Town of Black Mountain staff from all departments are available during normal business hours to provide assistance either by phone or by email. As the virus progresses some employees may begin to telework. The Town's website is also fully operational and allows residents to easily make water bill payments and submit online services requests.

Public safety employees in police, fire, and the emergency communications center (911), along with other Town employees will continue their duties while observing social distancing and hand sanitization best practices.
