Owen High boys soccer wins 3 in a row

The Owen High boys soccer team defeated Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy on its home turf Aug. 30 for its third win in a row. 

"We're slowly finding our rhythm," said Owen Coach David Fiest. "We're finding our team personality."

Despite losing the first game of the season to Smoky Mountain, the Warhorses have been on a winning streak since, managing to score four goals against Thomas Jefferson for a final score of 4-1. 

Owen attacking midfielder Nino Luther scored the first goal of the game with a header, putting the Warhorses up 1-0 in the first five minutes. Thomas Jefferson quickly responded three minutes later with a goal from midfielder Judson Ohmstead.

With only two minutes remaining in the first half, striker Jason Gun sent a soft shot into the goal, putting Owen up 2-1 at halftime. Gun also was credited with an assist. 

Striker Daniel Garcia scored two goals in the second half for Owen to seal the Warhorses' win. 

Fiest said the team continues to build trust in one another, allowing for additional trust in the tactics. The success built through this trust, according to Fiest, will hopefully allow the Owen team to find success in the conference matches later on in the season. 

"I think consistency is going to be the key in what we're doing," Fiest said. 

The coach said learning to incorporate the smaller things and maintaining consistency should help the team continue on their recent success throughout the season. 

"If we can be consistent with the little things I think we'll continue to go in the right direction," Fiest said.
