Lurton Pablo Stone

L. Pablo Stone, 91, of Black Mountain, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019. Pablo, born Jan. 3, 1928 in Hartford, Conn., was the son of the late Ruby and Perry Stone (Mr. Sourwood). He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Stone, and second wife, Jenean Stone, and by his sister, Anne Eyer.

Pablo is survived by his three daughters, Rebecca Stone, Elena Stone Torres, and Anita Stone Lovejoy; his brother, Barton Stone (Constance) of Sebastopol, California; his five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pablo lived over 30 years in Latin America working as a missionary and in food and agriculture development organizations.

He retired in Black Mountain where he continued pursuing various peace initiatives. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is now safe home with his Lord.

A memorial service was held in the First Christian Church of Black Mountain on Nov. 23. Rev. Bill Moore will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Pablo's name to Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministries, (SVCM) P.O. Box 235, Black Mountain, NC 28711.

John Clayton Sneed

Black Mountain

John Clayton Sneed, 89, of Black Mountain passed away Friday, November 15, 2019.

John was born April 13, 1930 in Buncombe County to the late John and Elsie Sneed.  He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Germany during the Korean War and attended Salem Free Will Baptist Church, Old Fort.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Thiery, Grover, Buddy and Rex Sneed and sisters, Mina Cook, Fleeta Brown, Mary Todd, Fannie McDaniel, Callie Burleson, Imogene Bivins, Trula Mae and Velma Sneed.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Elizabeth Sneed and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service was held in the chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals, Nov. 18.

Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park.

Billie Fisher

Billie Fisher

Billie C. Fisher, 81, of Black Mountain passed away Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019.

Mrs. Fisher was born Feb. 22, 1938 in Royston, Georgia to the late Coy and Marzie Crider.

She was member of First Baptist Church of Black Mountain.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Tommy O. Fisher; three sisters and two brothers.

Billie is survived by her sons, David Fisher (Donna), Michael Fisher (Pearl), and Will Fisher (Maria); sister, Martha Fowler; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer Hodges (Ben), Erika Myers (Steven), Haley Miller (Anthony), Christina Wise (Ace), Dean Fisher, Holden Fisher, Spencer and Elise Buckner; and 8 great grandchildren, Julianna, Emma, Mason, Ashton, Xander, Hunter, Harper, and Kinsley.

A Celebration of Life Service was held in the chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals, Nov. 19.

Burial will be at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

Horace Lewis Rogers

Horace Lewis Rogers

H. Lewis Rogers, Jr., 73, of Black Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 18, 2019.

Mr. Rogers was born July 20, 1946 in Haywood County to the late Horace Lewis Rogers, Sr. and Grace Garrett Rogers. Lewis loved his family. He served as a Deacon at Mountain View Baptist Church and was a member of the praise and worship team. Lewis retired from the American Red Cross. He served during the Vietnam War as a Hospital Corpsman attached to 2nd Battalion 9th Marines.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Debbie Rogers.

Lewis is survived by his wife, Barbara B. Rogers; children, Christopher L. Rogers, Kenneth M. Rogers (Amy), Bryan C. Rogers, Eric L. Halford (Melinda), and Tiffany P. Hanson (Nathan); and eight grandchildren.

Burial was held at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Nov. 21.
