Louisville school district cancels games, practices Wednesday in light of Breonna Taylor decision

Jefferson County (Kentucky) Public Schools has canceled all games and practices Wednesday in light of the announcement in the Breonna Taylor case.

A Kentucky grand jury on Wednesday indicted former Louisville police officer Brett Hankison on three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment in Taylor's shooting.

JCPS spokesperson Renee Murphy said no decision has been made about games and practices beyond Wednesday, including Friday’s high school football schedule.

St. Xavier High School athletic director Denny Williams said the Trinity-St. Xavier soccer game scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday has been postponed but has not yet been rescheduled. St. Xavier is scheduled to host Trinity in football at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

On Tuesday, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer declared a state of emergency for the city “due to the potential for civil unrest.” Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron was scheduled to announce Wednesday afternoon whether his office will bring charges against the officers who fatally shot Taylor during a raid at her home on March 13.

Other announcements Wednesday: 

* Mercy Academy's volleyball match at Presentation was postponed. 

* Sacred Heart Academycanceled all practices.

* Assumption High school canceled all games and practice
